Dudley Elementary School Garden:

This project begins soon after start of each school year with students preparing and planting a 4’ x 8’ raised bed square foot garden. Plants and growth are monitored and studied throughout the growing cycle both in the classroom and in the garden.  Students have hands-on experiences with identifying soils, seeds, plants and their parts, growing plants in small containers, studying and caring for worms with an in-class worm bin, and learning how weather, birds, insects and other phenomena help plants reproduce.  The garden is frequently highlighted on the Franklin County Public School website and the principal’s school blog. Evaluation is done throughout the school with the teachers (2) whose classes are involved.
